Persoonlijkheidstesten vind je in overvloed op de Interwebs en de social media’s. In de begindagen van Facebook waren ze zelfs schering en inslag. Vandaag verzeilde ik op 16personalities.com en was ik meteen geïntrigeerd. Deze test classificeert je aan één van 16 persoonlijkheidstypes – Architect, Mediator, Executive, Entrepreneur,… – en geeft je een mooi beschrijving van je type op verschillende vlakken.

Het geheel ziet er speels uit, maar het onderliggende model is wetenschappelijk opgebouwd. Het is een combinatie van verschillende psychologische theorieën zoals Jungs’ karaktereigenschappen, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator en de Big Five Personality Traits. Het is dus zeker geen test die je domweg vertelt of je “introvert” dan wel “extravert” bent. Het resultaat vertelt je ook of je meer op je intuïtie of op je zintuigen afgaat, hoe avontuurlijk je bent, of je meer met de voeten op de grond staat dan wel met je hoofd in wolken zit.

Wat mijn type is wel? *cue drumroll* Ik ben een INFP-T “Mediator”. De INFP-T staat voor “Introverted – Intuitive – Feeling – Prospective – Turbulent”. Welja.

Yup. Dat klopt zo in grote lijnen ongeveer wel. Wat mij enigszins in het oog springt is dat ik blijkbaar een Zeldzaam Specimen ben. Okay dan.

Ik ben niet de man van de dogma’s, maar ik ben evenmin een zuivere pragmaticus. Ik vind dat de waarheid voor mezelf ergens in het midden ligt.

Spot on! Volgens Marjan ben ik een beelddenker. Dat betekent dat ik graag met beeldtaal uitdruk. Creatief schrijven vind ik heel leuk om te doen, maar ik geef mezelf dan weer te weinig ruimte om daar in te groeien. Nochtans weet ik dat er een pak meer in zit. Voorlopig hou ik het op lezen. Veel lezen. Maar de kriebel om zelf verhalen uit te werken, die is er wel degelijk.

Jawel. Daarheen en weer terug. Heel herkenbaar. Ik vind het fantastisch om makkelijk in brede verbanden na te kunnen denken, maar dat heeft ook zijn nadelen. Met het ouder worden ben ik een stuk zelfbewuster geworden. Dat helpt enorm om de voetjes op de grond te houden wanneer het nodig is. Maar het blijft altijd wel een oefening.

Welja, daar ga ik nu zelf eens geen commentaar op geven. Dat laat ik over aan zij die mij kennen. In ieder geval. Ik deel het pantheon met figuren zoals J.R.R. Tolkien, Johnny Depp, Alicia Keys en Björk.
